Nothing much is known about the sitter of this painting, other than it was painted as a commission. In 1934, just before the artist’s death, he donated the six paintings that can be seen in Maesteg Town Hall, to his home town. His son Ivor went to Maesteg to oversee the hanging of the pictures. It was recorded in the local paper that he helped plant a ‘tree for peace’ in the local park. Assisting him, from London, was Mr Sackville-Evans.
