This painting depicts men and women making ammunitions boxes at the old Crosby Doors factory, Farnham, in 1944.
The artist John Hutton was self-taught and is best known for his work as a glass engraver. He designed and engraved the West Window of Coventry Cathedral, the doors of Guildford Cathedral and figures from Shakespeare at the Shakespeare Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon. He also worked in Canada, New Zealand and the United States.
