In classical mythology, Leda was seduced by the god Zeus disguised as a swan. The sinuous curves of Leda and the bird stand out against the landscape background.
This painting has been tentatively attributed to the artist Michele Rocca. He painted small-scale cabinet pictures of mythological and religious subjects. It was recorded at Brodsworth Hall in an inventory of 1885.
