In 1882 the Uxbridge Steam Laundry opened in Hetherington’s Yard, later to be known as Laundry Yard. It was located off Uxbridge High Street and gave access to the laundry and to the rear of shops on the High Street. The building occupied by the steam laundry was erected in 1864 and had previously been used as a brewery. The laundry continued to operate until 1962, when plans for the redevelopment of Uxbridge town centre were taking place and the building was demolished.
