John Wesley was the founder of the Methodist movement and was a popular preacher and writer. Samuel Johnson knew both Wesley and his sister, Mrs Hall. Although Johnson, James Boswell and Oliver Goldsmith have been identified sitting in the far back right pew, with Johnson wearing pale blue, the identifications have little basis.
