Secretary of State from 1652 to 1660, his vast correspondence in the Bodleian Library at Oxford, provides one of the chief sources of information for the Protectorate. A loyal supporter of Cromwell, Thurloe had a fine house built at Wisbech on the site of the Norman Castle.
