Clement Roebuck would often travel by sea on transport ships, to make the most of his journey; he enjoyed sailing and in particular the slow speed of this type of journey.
It is believed that Roebuck met either Pierneef’s daughter or granddaughter on a crossing from England to South Africa. The daughter/granddaughter introduced Roebuck to Pierneef and Roebuck stayed with him on several occasions.
