This composition contains groups of people engaged in obscure pastimes, either singly or in groups. Many of the figures are naked and the background is a fluorescent green ground. The artist was from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, and taught art at Queen Elizabeth Boys Grammar School, Carmarthen. He produced many pleasant watercolours of scenes in Carmarthenshire. This large canvas, containing scenes of homoerotic symbolism intertwined with the narrative of a Welsh folk tale, is atypical of his work. He was also a poet and a playwright, writing in English and Welsh.
