Frank Fidler was a self-taught artist who began painting in 1947. He lived in Hoddesdon in the 1950s and 1960s. He was one of the original members of the Hoddesdon and District Art Club, which exhibited at the Lowewood Museum and Library in the 1940s and 1950s.
The Library moved to a new location in the High Street in 1977 and Frank Fidler donated the painting to mark the occasion. He often took inspiration from nature.
