Although he was King during Bath’s heyday as a fashionable spa, George III never visited the city. He reigned from 1760 to 1820, although in the later part of this reign was King in name only. Seriously ill from 1810, George’s public duties were taken over by his eldest son, who served as Prince Regent for almost a decade before becoming King in 1820.
