Barbara Castle (1910–2002) served as Labour MP for Blackburn, Lancashire, from 1945 to 1979 and was Minister of Transport in the 1964 Harold Wilson government. In this capacity Barbara Castle introduced the breathalyser test, the 70 mph speed limit on motorways and legislation requiring all cars to be fitted with seatbelts.
