Second daughter of Oliver Cromwell. She was reputedly Cromwell’s favourite daughter, known by him as ‘Bettie’. Her protracted illness and early death, in August 1658 contributed to Cromwell’s own decline. She was buried at Westminster Abbey. At the Restoration all of the commonwealth dignitaries buried there were removed, with the exception of Elizabeth whose grave was overlooked.
