This is a three-quarter length portrait of the sitter resting his left hand on his hip, his right hand apparently resting on the head of a chair. He is wearing a long dark wig and white cravat, with a brown cloak over a purple-grey gown. The painting is inscribed ‘Edward Colston Esq. ann. dom. 1693’, but was actually painted in 1694.
