This painting is a portrait of Dr James Irving Lace which was commissioned as a public memorial to him. He was the first Medical Officer for Arlecdon and Frizington, Chairman of the School Board for twenty-four years and instructor of the Frizington Ambulance Team which competed at Crystal Palace. Dr Lace died on 2nd October 1910.
