The artist has taken particular care with the execution of the sitter's face and hair compared to the quick sketching-in of her dungarees and striped shirt. Full of energy, it creates an informal impression of the sitter, who was the wife of Lord Head, formerly High Commissioner of Nigeria and Malaysia. They lived in Throope Manor in Bishopstone, near Salisbury.
