Jesus interrupted a Samaritan woman drawing water from the Well of Jacob to ask for a drink. The woman was surprised as Jews generally shunned Samaritans. Jesus offered the woman living water that would eternally quench everyone’s thirst. The words prompted the woman to declare him a prophet and to tell her people about him. By making her the physical vehicle for carrying his message to the Samaritans, Jesus indicated most forcefully that he had come to save all humanity. This incident places particular emphasis upon grace and forgiveness.
