Fisher was born in Boston, USA, of Anglo-Irish parents. He painted portraits at first, moving to landscape and animal subjects later. He came to England in 1872 and began exhibiting at the Royal Academy and Royal Institute of Painters in watercolours. Fisher died in 1923 at his home in Harlow, Essex.
'Cattle in a Landscape' is one of four cattle paintings by Fisher owned by the Beecroft and many more exist in public collections around Britain.
