The portraits of Thomas Welch Hunt and Caroline Welch Hunt were completed to commemorate their marriage in February 1824. Unfortunately, their marriage only lasted ten months. They were shot by a bandit near Poestum in Italy on the 3rd December and both Thomas and Caroline died of their injuries. They are buried in a joint grave in Naples.
Thomas Welch Hunt was the owner of the estate and manor of Wadenhoe. There is a stone tablet in memory to this young couple at St Michael and All Angels Church Wadenhoe, Northamptonshire.
