This painting's Welsh title translates as 'The Flowers of March 1st'. This is Saint David's Day, and Saint David is the patron saint of Wales. Williams' paintings have been compared to those of L. S. Lowry. She worked as a composer and musical arranger for the BBC in London prior to the Second World War. She returned to Llanelli during the war and continued to work for the BBC. She took up painting at this time.
