Bishop Alexander Cameron succeeded Bishop Hay as Vicar Apostolic of the Lowland District in 1805. It was Cameron who was responsible for reintroducing singing into Catholic churches after Hay's veto. One of Cameron's priorities was to break down anti-Catholic prejudice by convincing the government of the loyalty of the Catholic community.
