Gertrude Crompton was an accomplished amateur artist. She travelled extensively around England, and occasionally visited Europe, painting wherever she went. She was trained at the Westminster School of Art and in Paris, and exhibited regularly in London.
She bequeathed a group of paintings to the Victoria Art Gallery because she loved Bath – not just for the city’s beauty, but also because she gained relief from arthritis through thermal treatment there.
