A mythological scene depicting Phaeton visiting his father Phoebus Apollo in the clouds. Scene viewed from below, with a number of men, women and animals feasting and drinking amongst lower clouds in bottom half of picture, and a Greek temple just visible on the far right. Apollo sits with his lyre on a cloud in the centre of the composition, Phaeton kneeling at his feet to the left. Above them Father Time, carrying a scythe and hourglass, wrestles with a figure (Phaeton?) carrying a wreath. This takes place in a painted oval frame, over which spill drunken revellers in the bottom left corner.
