Anders Morten Hammer Fischer was born in Loestoer, Jutland, Denmark on 21st February 1853. He came to Scotland around 1872 and settled in South Alloa where for 35 years he carried on business as a shipbroker and wood merchant. He married three times: Andrea Magdelene Johanne Bille in 1876, Astrid Peterson in c.1891, and Agnes Jansen (a Swedish opera singer) in c.1895. Morten Fischer moved to Dollar in 1895 where he took an active part in social and business life, and was elected Provost of Dollar from 1902–1908. For 20 years he was Consul at Alloa for both Norway and Sweden and when the countries separated he remained Consul of Sweden, flying the flag on all suitable occasions at his house in Dollar. He died in Thisted, Denmark in 1926.
