Webber was the artist commissioned by the Admiralty on Captain James Cook’s third voyage of discovery. The expedition’s objectives were again to locate, record and chart the unknown Southern Continent and to further expand knowledge of the Pacific Islands. His artistic preoccupations were the anthropological aspects of what he saw.
