A peahen, peacock, hen and cockerel are in the centre of the composition, with a waxwing and bullfinch above and shelducks and swans to the right. As the historian Dr Waagen noted on his visit to Hertford House in 1854, the picture is ‘a good but not a first rate picture by the artist’. A comparable undated composition is at Dyrham Park (National Trust) and another work was in the Goldschmidt sale (Berlin, 22 November, 1927).
