A year with Robert Burns

Beginning on 31 December 2011, BBC Scotland is offering the chance to enjoy Robert Burns on a daily basis.

Proving that the bard’s works are not just for 25 January, each day poet, journalist and Burns enthusiast, Donny O’Rourke, will select a poem or song from Burns’s extensive collection. Donny’s choices will reflect the seasons, key events in the poet’s life and work, anniversaries, holidays and connections between past and present.

There is something for everyone in the work of Robert Burns, whether you’re a devotee, or new to his writings, and what better way to acquaint yourself with our national bard than through daily contact with his poetry?

As Donny O’Rourke says, “Verse should be as vital as vitamins and a daily dose of Burns would do everyone good”.

We’ll make sure you don’t miss a day’s selection, by posting Donny’s choices on BBC Scotland’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

However, even 365 visits this year will still leave almost half of Burns's poems remaining, so do spend some time browsing on this website, where you can also listen to recordings of his work.

Pencil in a daily date and let’s make every day Burns’s Day.
