Project Description
The inspiration for Charade came from Truffaut's film Fahrenheit 451 in which reading is considered a criminal offence and books are destroyed. Inspired by this sense of loss and living in an age when data can so easily be destroyed by hacks and viruses, Pope asks a group of volunteers in Birmingham to choose their favourite cultural artefact and commit it to memory. The project will develop through a series of workshops, video diaries and online activities, culminating in a large-scale public event when the volunteers congregate to recite their chosen pieces.
