Henry Peach Robinson was an extremely influential figure in 19th century photography. He was a founder member of the 'Linked Ring Brotherhood', a group formed to promote photography as a serious art form, and a leading figure of the Pictorialist movement, which sought to differentiate 'artistic' photography from amateur snapshots. Robinson produced elaborate photographic tableaux, often using several different negatives to create the finished picture.
