On stage with the ghost of Richard Burton's Hamlet


Members of influential New York theatre company The Wooster Group discuss their production of Hamlet for the Edinburgh International Festival.

Shakespeare's tragedy is reimagined at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, incorporating footage from Richard Burton's Hamlet, the 1964 Broadway production filmed for cinema distribution. The live performance in Edinburgh plays out as film of Burton's Hamlet is screened simultaneously on stage.

The Wooster Group's Scott Shepherd and Elizabeth LeCompte explain the motivations behind the complex production.
