Bal Samra Bal Samra: 'The BBC is a much-admired global brand'

Bal Samra, Managing Director, BBC Television and Commercial Director BBC, has received the coveted Sikhs in Media international award at the 2015 Sikh Awards.

Bal, who has worked for the BBC since 1991, received the award at The Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, India.

He was presented with the award by Bollywood star and film director Raj Babbar in recognition of his accomplishments and contribution to both the BBC and the wider industry.

Bal said: "It was an honour to be recognised for my contribution to media, particularly in India, where the world of Bollywood plays such a big cultural role.

"The BBC is a much-admired global brand. Where else could my contribution make such as extraordinary difference to people's lives? The news journalism and documentary-making is renowned for its integrity.

"I take particular pleasure in my wider involvement in media at Comic Relief and the National Film and Television School, and my contribution to Ormiston Academies Trust which has a single mission to change the life chances of 20,000 children at its schools through educational opportunities"

The Sikh Awards recognise the achievements of Sikhs internationally, highlighting the successes of the Sikh community in all sectors.

He said: "Receiving the media award in front of dignitaries from around the globe, business leaders, Bollywood stars, ambassadors, politicians and movie directors was very special."
