Burton and Taylor, a BBC Four original drama starring Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West, has been honoured with two RTS awards in craft and design.

The biopic - which focused on the ageing actors' reunion for Noel Coward's play Private Lives in 1983 - took awards for costume design and and makeup design (drama).

Transmitted over the summer, Burton and Taylor was the last biopic to be made for BBC Four, after the channel lost its drama budget.

The BBC took a further 10 awards in 25 categories, all of which honour programme production - from editing to lighting and costume design to digital effects.

Sports Personality of the Year 2012 also picked up two awards on the night, for production design (entertainment) and for tape and editing (sport). The annual ceremony was held in London last December and saw cyclist Bradley Wiggins crowned the winner.

Visual effects designer Andy McVean, who has worked on numerous BBC programmes including Top Gear and Strictly Come Dancing, was given a lifetime achievement award.
