Daytime drama Moving On will go out on iPlayer ahead of its tv transmission.

It will be the first BBC drama series to have an iPlayer launch, with all five films to be seen first online.

As part of a BBC trial of iPlayer premiering, all BBC Three scripted comedy goes out first on iPlayer, while three Storyville documentaries had online premieres earlier this month.

The fifth series of Jimmy McGovern's Moving On will include contemporary stories about compulsive shoplifting, alopecia, sibling rivalry, family secrets and acrimonious divorce.

Stars will include Anita Dobson, Natalie Gumede and Anthony Flanagan, with comic Johnny Vegas and actor Robert Glenister among the directors.

'As an established drama in the daytime schedule, the series premiere on BBC iPlayer will be both a gift to loyal viewers and an unprecedented opportunity for a wider audience to enjoy these five stand-alone films across multiple devices, and at a time that suits them,' believed Victoria Jaye, iPlayer's head of tv content.

She pointed out that drama programmes accounted for almost a third of total viewing on iPlayer, while iPlayer use on mobiles and tablets had risen by 43% in the last year.
