The soundtrack to a film is arguably as important as the dialogue. Imagine watching Star Wars without the menacing music or the bombing sequence in the epic Apocalypse Now without the Wagner score.

As part of the Sound of Cinema season, the BBC wants to find the nation's favourite film soundtrack of all time. A group of radio presenters and personalities - including Radio 1's Rhianna Dillon and Radio 2's Simon Mayo - have compiled a shortlist of their top 20, from which listeners have been asked to vote for their favourite.

The vote closes on midnight on Friday September 20, with the winner announced the following Friday during a live broadcast on Radio 3. The track will also be played live by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Ariel would like to know what film soundtrack you would vote for. Send us your choice by Thursday September 19 with a short reason why and we'll publish a round-up. Email Ariel Team with subject heading 'film'.
