BBC Three to show Fazer’s plans for Proms
Former N-Dubz member Fazer will reveal his love for classical music in a new BBC Three documentary.
The two-part programme follows the rapper, as he recruits seven musicians with no interest in orchestral music for a performance at the BBC Proms.
The documentary shows young artists admitting they think the genre is boring, slow or "for old people".
But Fazer said: "I am so looking forward to opening their eyes and ears.
"Hopefully they'll get the same inspiration and feeling that I got when I first worked with an 85-piece orchestra - it's like 3D music, music in high definition."Urban classics
Fazer's recruits, who include a singer that plays the Chinese flute, will perform his latest work with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
The composition combines urban styles with the classical genre, and will be played at the Urban Classic Prom on Saturday 10 August.
BBC Three controller Zai Bennett said viewers would get "a first hand, behind-the-scenes account from Fazer and his Urban Orchestra of the kind of preparation involved in performing at such an event".
The documentary, which has a working title of Fazer's Urban Symphony, will air in September and has been produced by the Entertainment department in Salford.
Singers Laura Mvula and Jacob Banks will also perform at the Urban Classic Prom in the Royal Albert Hall. It will be broadcast live on Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as on Radio 3.
A recorded version will air on BBC Three later that night.
