Record 76m radio requests on iPlayer

The number of radio requests on BBC iPlayer rose to a record 76 million during May - a 2% growth on the previous month.

Radio 4 comedy, including The Unbelievable Truth and The Now Show, proved most popular, each gaining a peak of more than 130,000 requests.

Cricket and rugby coverage, along with Radio 1's Big Weekend, also drew just under 100,000 requests each.

Radio formed nearly 30% of all 257m programme requests in May, when TV shows on iPlayer were requested on 181m occasions.

Doctor Who and the return of The Apprentice topped the TV rankings, drawing 1.87m and 1.76m requests respectively.

A musical treat from Hollywood star Will Smith, along with former co-stars from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, helped an episode of The Graham Norton Show gain nearly 1m requests.

Around 47% of all iPlayer requests were made from a computer, with tablets and mobiles each drawing 15%.
