Radio 5 live controller Jonathan Wall has completed his new management team by appointing Richard Maddock and Heidi Dawson as commissioning editor and editor respectively.

Maddock joins the news and sport station after 20 years in commercial radio at Bauer Media. He will now be responsible for commissioning from independent companies and major event planning at 5 live.

Dawson said she was delighted to be promoted from the station's assistant editor to the role of editor, which she starts in July.

She will be responsible for collaborations with news programmes and champion multiplatform projects.

Citing the success of the birth-focused strand Bump Club, she said: "I'm keen to develop further partnerships which will allow us to produce even more standout moments and creative programming."

Radio 5 live won UK Station of the Year at May's Sony Awards ceremony, and Maddock said: "The chance to join one of the true bastions of British broadcasting is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm really looking forward to the challenge."

Both will work at the 5 live studios in Salford, where the station has been based since 2011 after moving from London.

Jonathan Wall, who took charge of the network in February, said Maddock and Dawson would "challenge me and the rest of the team to think in new ways and grow even stronger".
