A new CBBC series is looking for a presenter to join current Blue Peter hosts Helen Skelton and Barney Harwood.

Presented by Dick and Dom (Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood), So You Think You Can Be A Blue Peter Presenter will show candidates compete in challenge-based heats to become the third member of the Blue Peter gang.

A panel of judges will choose which applicants make it through each round but, for the first time, the CBBC audience will select the winner, who will then go on to co-host the world's longest-running children's TV show.

So You Think You Can Be A Blue Peter Presenter will air in the summer. But before filming starts, CBBC viewers can vote online for one of the challenges that the candidates will face.

CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor said: "Working on Blue Peter is a dream job for any aspiring presenter and our search for a new face to join Helen and Barney will generate a huge level of excitement for CBBC viewers."

Potential applicants must email bppresentersearch@bbc.co.uk for details but unsolicited showreels and CVs sent in through other avenues will not be considered.

Along with the rest of BBC Children's, the Blue Peter production team moved in 2011 from London to Salford, where their new garden was opened to the public last year.

The show has seen its audience among its target demographic of 6-12 year olds rise since it was shifted to the CBBC peaktime slot of 5.15pm in 2012.

The flagship programme first aired on 16 October 1958 and now airs once a week.

Dick and Dom will also feature in their second series of Absolute Genius and Diddy Movies II - The Sequel in 2014. All three programmes will be made in-house by CBBC.
