Test Cards and Ceefax

An interview with Edwin Parsons a BBC preservation expert

Edwin Parsons, a preservation expert from the BBC's Archives, explains why the test cards and Ceefax matter more than you might think.

Are Test Cards still used?

With 24-hour broadcasting the test card is dead to all intents and purposes as far as most people are concerned. Obviously, the enthusiasts and the fans are still keeping it alive, but as an engineering tool it's still used internally and, in fact, I still use the test card myself for checking lines and setting up monitors and levels and that manner of thing.
