Joan Crawford (pictured above in 1947), expresses her gratitude to the film industry and to the audiences that have made her a star. Speaking to John Kobal in New York, the actress talks enthusiastically about the business of stardom, its effect on relationships and her own experiences of celebrity.
Once known for her glamour, Joan Crawford found her career was in decline by the time of this interview. Her 1962 team-up with old rival Bette Davis for the gothic 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' failed to produce the results she had hoped for. The remainder of her working life saw her feature in a succession of horror-themed projects such as 'Strait-Jacket' (1963) and 'I Saw What You Did' (1965) - both for director William Castle - and anthology TV series including Rod Serling's 'Night Gallery' and 'Journey to the Unknown', which she hosted. After a lucrative appearance in the TV drama 'The Sixth Sense' in 1972, she retired completely from acting. She died on 10 May 1977.
