Synopsis

This programme was produced by the World Service to commemorate the centenary of Churchill's birth. Interviews from a variety of sources reveal Churchill's complex and fascinating nature. Contributors include Anthony Eden, Lord Boothby, Lady Astor and the painter Paul Maze, Churchill's friend, who describes him as a 'true artist'.

Did you know?

Paul Maze was born in Normandy in 1887. He served with both the British and French armies during World War I and met Winston Churchill in the trenches. They became life-long friends and Maze, a renowned artist, encouraged Churchill to develop his drawing and painting techniques.
