FRANCIS BACON AT THE BBC | Celebrating the life and work of a great British artist
In this letter, producer Michael Gill discusses the editing of the documentary 'Francis Bacon: Fragments of a Portrait'. Interestingly, he offers Francis Bacon the opportunity to suggest what parts of his interviews should be included, thereby giving Bacon some control over how he is presented. The programme is available to view as part of this collection.
Michael Gill, who died in 2005, was a brilliant filmmaker who went on to produce 'Civilisation' (1969) with Kenneth Clark and 'Alistair Cooke's America' (1972). The documentary he made on Francis Bacon was shown to Kenneth Clark and persuaded him to work with Gill on 'Civilisation'.
