Description: Shetland Islanders celebrate the festival of Up-Helly-Aa each year to commemorate their Viking ancestors. Islanders process through the streets at night, carrying flaming torches and a life-sized model of a Viking longship. At the end of the procession the islanders hurl their torches onto the ship to burn it as a tribute to their ancestors.
Use this clip to consider where the Vikings settled and as evidence they settled in Britain. The clip could also be used to explore the origin of festivals.
