External link guidelines

The blog links we feature on our programme pages are found automatically and checked when they are first found by moderators. A blog post or external site is classed as unsuitable if it contains, or directly links to, material which is:

  • Offensive...
    • Pornography or sexually explicit content
    • Text or images likely to offend the audience of the programme (e.g. swearing in a link from a family show)
    • Hate (on the ground of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or personal attack)
    • Gratuitous violence
  • Unlawful...
    • Condones or encourages unlawful acts
    • Breaches copyright law or encourages others to do so (e.g. peer-to-peer music sites or illegal downloads)
    • Defamation or contempt of court
    • Hacking or other technical disruption to online services
    • Describes how to conduct an unlawful act
  • Presents access or safety problems
    • Pay-to-view or other subscription
    • Site initiates a download
    • Site requires obscure software
    • 18+ site (e.g. gambling)
    • Foreign language site with no English language version
    • Site requiring registration before any content can be viewed
  • Promotional...
    • Solely for-profit products and services (no editorial content)
    • Pay-to-list directory
    • Cascading site (automatically launching numerous windows)
    • Campaigning
  • Lacks value...
    • Site that is largely reproducing other sources
