Exit interview - Sara

Exit interview - Sara

Week 8 Sara Dhada said goodbye to the show in week eight, but she wasn't sorry to say goodbye to the other contenders. The 25 year-old car trader reckons they were starting to drive her round the bend...

How did you enjoy your Apprentice experience?
I didn't find the experience enjoyable, because I didn't gel well with the other team members. I tried hard but some people didn't want me to be there. I was emotionally exhausted.

We saw the fight in the house in episode six. Is that when the troubles began?

It built a bit before then. The incident in week six went on for a long time, but I didn't cry, and I didn't argue back. I could have walked out. Eventually I went to make myself a cup of tea. Luckily, I am a strong person.

We were glad to see Raef stand up for you...
Michael and Alex gave me a hard time, but Raef was a true gentleman. He stood up. Raef is a man with dignity and honesty. He has standards and he is very professional.

Who did you get on with?
I got on with Raef and Lucinda, and I got on very well with Simon. When Simon went, it seemed like all my friends were going and I was by myself. Raef and Lucinda were not often on my team. When we were together we did well in Marrakesh.

You said that people didn't listen to your ideas on the greetings card task...
I found it difficult to state my ideas. In the greetings card task, I wanted to expand on the idea of Eid cards and have cards which celebrated Chinese holidays, the Hindu faith days, and so on. But nothing that came out of my mouth was taken seriously.

Who were the worst culprits for that?
I think you saw in the task that Claire steamrollered over me, and said, "OK, Jenny, we'll just go with your idea" instead. It was hard to find momentum when I kept getting that reaction.

Everyone did say you were very quiet...
You don't have to bang your fist on the desk in order to get things done. I didn't have a plan to get myself as much TV airtime as possible. I just wanted to graft.

Who do you think should have been fired instead of you?
I felt that Helene should have gone, because the reason we failed the task was product selection. The wedding dresses that Helene chose were awful. We did try to tell her to opt for the Ian Stuart dresses, but she wasn't having any of it.

You were dismissed for using hard-sell tactics. Why did you do that?
I really only sold hard in the last half hour or so, because we were getting desperate. Everyone was going home. Until then, I'd never sold like that in my life!

What was it like to be in the boardroom?
It was scary. I wasn't scared of Sir Alan himself; I was worried about the other candidates because I knew they wanted me out. I didn't defend myself well in the boardroom because I was so stressed. I couldn't think straight.

Were you disappointed to be fired?
I was relieved to be fired. I knew I wouldn't have to go back.

Who do you think should win The Apprentice?
It is important to have integrity, honesty and common sense, and I think Raef has all of those qualities.

What did you learn from Sir Alan?
I did pick up a few things from Sir Alan but I've learnt lots of lessons from life too. When I was a law student I spent a lot of money on an expensive flat in Mayfair. I didn't go to lots of clubs or buy expensive clothes, but I spent a lot on courses to help me in my career. I wanted the high life and I paid a price for it. I had credit card bills, but I learnt from that.

Do you still want to follow in your dad's footsteps and be a millionaire at 25?
My dad is still my role model. He taught me how to handle myself, and taught me how to have integrity. If you follow simple rules in business you can succeed.

What made you decide not to practice law?
I haven't made that decision. I enjoyed the law, but I thought, I've learned a lot so far, but I could do a lot more with the knowledge I've gained. Business is about making money and I was doing pretty well in my family business. My father said, "Get qualified - and then do what you want".

And what do you want to do now?
I want open my own business, and I want to hire a fabulous team to work with me. I don't want to be in the limelight, I just want to have a quiet life.
