Episode: 6 The sausage saga

6 The sausage saga

This week Sir Alan sends the teams over the channel to sell quality British food products at a local French market. Two boys we haven't seen that much from head up their respective teams - Lohit for Eclipse and Paul for Stealth. Not being able to speak the language is no excuse, warns Sir Alan. He's sold in every country in the world and only speaks her Majesty's language.

The teams have a day to pick up their chosen food lines before catching the ferry. Kristina, Katie and Ghazal head off to purchase sausages and wind up in a women's prison, which appears to rattle their nerves. They decide to go with the porkies. Ghazal's nervous about selling raw produce, but are assured by the sausage producer that if they cook them, once people have tasted a sample they will buy.

With full knowledge that the team needs a portable cooking stove, Paul decides to save money and create a home-made cooking apparatus based on a baked bean can. With two hours to go before catching the ferry, in a moment of madness, Paul spends £200 on cheese at the local cash and carry, ignoring Sir Alan's instruction to buy from small, quality food producers.

The next day on the market, the teams get to work. Team leader of Eclipse, Lohit goes with an English breakfast theme and while he makes a shrewd move to sell fine quality smoked fish, picking tea to sell to a coffee-drinking nation is a red herring. Over on Stealth's stall, the sausages are still raw in the pan at ten o'clock, and they haven't sold a single packet. The lumps of cheese are proving unpopular too.

Paul and his first lieutenant Katie go off on a wild goose chase trying to sell their packs of sausages to local restaurants, even at a local Halal kebab shop. Kristina, knowing that things are spiralling out of control finds a local kitchen to cook the sausages, and finally starts making some sales. Her patience snaps with Paul after discovering he has been selling the sausages at cost price. All camaraderie has dissolved and Kristina is ready to 'nail him' in the boardroom.

Back in the boardroom, with the money on the table: Lohit's team Eclipse spent £446 and made a £410 profit. Paul's team were anything but stealthy and spent £741 and made a loss of £225.84. Sir Alan didn't hide his disgust at Paul's ultimate failure. 'It's a total bloody joke' he barked.

Paul admits that the burner was something he cobbled together, but laid the blame on Adam's failure to cut a good deal on the marketing material for the stall and Kristina for being argumentative.

Things got personal in the boardroom as Adam and Kristina spilt the beans on Paul's 'personal relationship' with Katie as reason why she wasn't pulled back in to face the music. Sir Alan is not amused: 'This has been a disaster, a bloody disaster' he growled. 'I thought you were a contender Paul.' And the ex-Army lieutenant Paul was given his marching orders from the game with the words, 'You're a total shambles, you're fired', ringing in his ears...

On their way back to the house, Adam and Kristina made a pact to not tell Katie that her relationship with Paul was revealed in the boardroom.
