Episode: 5 Fish, lips and horses
This week we see the candidates wheel and deal in the fashionable London art scene. The teams have two days to select two artists to work with, mount an exhibition and then get buyers through the door of their private view. The team to sell the most art wins. Natalie heads up Eclipse and Kristina takes the reins with Stealth. Firstly the teams go to see the potential art works. Katie in Eclipse launches herself with gusto into meeting the artists. 'We're passionate about your work... bring us into your world' she gushed to artist Elisabeth Hoff, who's huge glossy lip photographs were Eclipse's first choice. But while some candidates were swept away by the glamour of the art world, it was the two usual suspects causing friction within their respective teams. Art makes Tre 'sick' and mister gloomy Adam dragged the team spirit down with his negative attitude. Unfamiliar with contemporary art, Tre started the day voicing his opinion about the cost of a painting in Christie's, then continued to criticise road kill artist Nigel Grimmer's work as nonsense and finished with a tirade of abuse about their chosen artist Linda Lieberman's ocean inspired work. 'Titties and fish,' he growled with disgust, 'what a combination. She calls it hanging the ocean out to dry. I call it bras and fish.' Stuck down in the basement with the responsibility of hanging Lieberman's work, Tre's morals were tested. Offended by the nudity in the pieces he censored the work, refusing to hang some of the pieces, saying they belonged in 'a fetish gallery'. No surprise that this resulted in a clash with Naomi and Jadine. Later in the evening, with his morals put aside, Tre launched into his own theory of art, enthusiastically talking to every possible customer, giving a rather fishy sounding patter. On the other team, tensions peaked. Adam's dour salesman act got on Natalie and Katie's nerves and they pleaded with him to take a softer approach to selling. Katie finds Adam more and more irritating, saying 'Adam, as ever, is a complete and utter catastrophe' and wishes he would 'go back to the car sales lot and get run over...' Led by Katie, the team turn against Adam's hard approach to selling, deciding they must tread lightly around artists and not go in for the hard sell at their private view. On the night Kristina, who briefed her team to sell hard, pull in the sales whereas Natalie's team struggle to cut deals. At the end of the night Adam has sold and comments that, 'Katie and Natalie are fantastic party hosts but lost focus selling'. In the boardroom, Kristina's team won by a landslide, pulling in £4,702 to Eclipse's £1599.78. They were packed off to a swanky spa to soak up some serious treatments. Kristina tried to persuade Tre to have a footballer style 'back, sack and crack' wax! Back in the boardroom, Eclipse faced the music. Immediately Sir Alan tackled Eclipse's choice of artist Elisabeth Hoff and was not impressed by the way she dominated the team and refused to share her contacts. Turning on a visibly flushed and nervous Katie, Sir Alan accused her of being swept away by the art and in total awe of Elisabeth. Adam and Lohit are pulled back into the final boardroom but ultimately it was Natalie who faced the chop. Although Sir Alan admired the way she combined motherhood with studying for her MBA, he felt she was out of her depth. And Natalie the housewife became the sixth candidate to be fired from the competition.
