When I first saw Elvis Presley perform on television, I saw a clip of him and it was in black and white and I was quite amazed at his style and his stamina, because there was no doubt about it - the way he made people move was because he was moving himself in the most marvellous gyratory way and it was a great joy and a pleasure to see.
Some of my listeners were absolutely horrified by the noise that he made. They couldn't comprehend it at all and they took against it. But then, very often, new sounds are very difficult to like immediately and it takes a couple of hearings before you actually get into it. And with Elvis Presley it was a matter of doing the same until you got to 'Blue Suede Shoes'. Then the moment you put that on, whether you'd never heard it before, you couldn't resist it. He was irresistible.
When we played Elvis Presley for the first time on a programme, the Controller of the Light Programme was absolutely horrified at this sound that we'd issued on his network and it took some time before he was convinced that we were doing the right thing. But he was later convinced, as was everybody else, that indeed Elvis had not only arrived, but had arrived to stay.
and it was in black and white - dhe ishte (film) bardhë e zi
there was no doubt about it - nuk kishte pikë dyshimi
the way he made people move - mënyra si i bënte njerëzit të lëviznin/vallëzonin
to make noise - bëj zhurmë
it takes a couple of hearings before you actually get into it - duhet ta dëgjosh nja dy herë përpara se të të pëlqejë
and with Elvis Presley it was a matter of doing the same - dhe me Elvis Prisleyn duhet të bëje të njejtën gjë
the moment you put that on - sapo e vije atë
Elvis had not only arrived, but had arrived to stay - Elvisi jo vetëm që kishte ardhur, por kishte ardhur për të ndenjur për gjithmonë.
