Parents' notes explaining the games within Soircas nan Deargannan, a Gaelic language science site about forces

Games and Levels

These games show how varying the strength of a force (pushing) can change the speed and direction of a moving object.

Constructive feedback is given by the ring-master when a turn is unsuccessful.

Experimentation and mistakes are allowed but a player must succeed three times, winning three fleas, in order to complete a game.

Stac Mìorbhaileach nan Deargannan (The Amazing Flea Stack)

Help the flea land on the target.

The first flea will jump from the platform and land on the seesaw to propel the other flea towards the target or flea stack.

As the difficulty level increases, the player is required to control an increasing number of variables in the game.

Level 1
Change one variable:
• the height from which the first flea jumps.

Level 2
Change two variables:
• the height from which the first flea jumps
• the size of the first flea.

Level 3
Change two variables:
• the height from which the first flea jumps
• the size of the first flea.

On Level 3 the flea has to land on top of a stack of other fleas without causing it to collapse.

Deargann Deiseil is Deònach (The Fabulous Flying Flea)

Help the flea hit the target when it's fired from a cannon.

As the difficulty level increases, the player is asked to control an increasing number of variables in the game.

Level 1
Change one variable:
• the angle of the barrel by clicking on the arrows to make it fire higher or lower.

Level 2
Change two variables:
• the angle of the barrel by clicking on the arrows to make it fire higher or lower
• the strength of the spring in the cannon to fire the flea with more or less force.

Level 3
Change three variables:
• the angle of the barrel by clicking on the arrows to make it fire higher or lower
• the strength of the spring in the cannon to fire the flea with more or less force
• the amount of bounce in the trampoline.

Cearcallan Paidh a' Chustard (The Custard Pie Carousel)

Help the flea hit the targets with its custard pies.

As the difficulty level increases, the player is asked to control an increasing number of variables in the game.

Level 1
Change one variable:
• the angle at which the custard pie is thrown in order to hit the target.

Level 2
Change two variables:
• the angle at which the custard pie is thrown in order to hit the target
• the amount of force used.

Level 3
Change three variables:
• the angle at which the custard pie is thrown in order to hit the target
• the amount of force used
• the method used to propel the custard pie.

Deargan air an Dreallaig (Flea Trapeze)

Help the fleas perform their tricks on the flying trapeze.

This game shows that the greater the strength of the swing the further the flea will be thrown by the trapeze.

Level 1
Change how far the trapeze swings to make the flea reach its target safely.

Level 2
On this level, the tricks involve more trapezes.

Level 3
On this level, the tricks involve more trapezes and more obstacles.

A' Chrìoch Mhòr (The Grand Finale)

This is a chance to watch all the fleas' tricks again.

Drag the coloured stars collected to the spaces on the film strip. Click on the camera icon to watch a film that is a collection of clips from all completed games.
