Na Saoranaich (The Citizens)

Na Saoranaich (The Citizens) is a website focusing on Citizenship with suitable opportunities for learners working towards the Second Level of Curriculum for Excellence. It is designed to provide opportunities for personalisation with a choice of activities in which users determine the outcome. The activities and videos provide a breadth of relevant challenges in real life contexts.

The people of the town need help! There are six Citizenship games and activities within Na Saoranaich. The challenge is to solve problems facing the community in this run down town. There are also short videos showing real projects carried out across Britain that inform and inspire pupils.

The Good Citizen Action Team have identified six projects to improve life in the town. Each activity is introduced by a team member who will appear in the game to offer advice when needed.

In each activity the user must replace old or broken items with new or replacement ones. Some of these new items need to be earned by completing activities relevant to the assignment.

The aim is to make every member of the community happy. A recurring theme of the six activities is compromise. To succeed at an activity the user needs to take the views of different members of the community into account and select an appropriate way forward.

This links directly with the aspirations of aspects of Health and Wellbeing with learners developing an understanding of how to maintain positive relationships with a variety of people and be aware of how thoughts, feelings, attitudes, values and beliefs can influence decisions about relationships. Through the activities and videos, the learner can witness the benefits of positive change in different environments.

The videos provide contexts in a range of curricular areas and may also support another focus of work. In addition to this, there are clear links with developing the skills of reflection, discernment, critical thinking and deciding how to act when making moral decisions.

The activities provide contexts for discussion and self-reflection on the user's decision-making.

To play activities, click on the different areas in the aerial view of the the town. The sections can be played in any order.
