I bought this slip bronze water buffalo in Bukit Tingi in the Minang Highlands of West Sumatra. Though staunchly Islamic the Minangkabau people have many myths and stories about the water buffalo which highlight the importance of the animal to their culture, even the roofs of their large houses are curved like the water buffalo's horns
